MOTHER OF A CHILD WITH A DISABILITY
“Becoming a mother of a disabled child means being able to handle something you can’t handle.” It means loving a child that is not what you would have wanted it to be and being furious about the ‘being like that’ of a child that you are closer to than anyone else. It means support, help and compassion from others, longing and cursing. It means being dependent on experts who can create and solve problems.
Living with a disabled child is living with contradictions: Contradictions in yourself, in the child and in your environment.
Can you handle it?”
